Scope of service and ethical governance
This module establishes an operational role card for non-clinical helping. Identify the accepted task, the choice belonging to the recipient, actions requiring an appropriately qualified provider, and a real escalation route. The name of a training programme is not a licence. Neither confidence nor good listening substitutes for authority. Separate practical information, supported choice and service connection from diagnosis and treatment. A support agreement requires an understandable purpose, purpose-specific consent, minimum necessary data, and truthful confidentiality limits. Consent needs revisiting when another person joins or the purpose of sharing information changes.
Treat accessibility and cultural differences as service-design concerns rather than deficiencies in the recipient. Ask which communication format works, offer a respectful alternative, and avoid turning silence or literacy needs into a judgment about character. Intake uses three distinct gates: apparent danger, topic fit and service capacity. Credible immediate danger changes the priority to safeguarding and qualified emergency response. Ordinary requests require a genuine executable route, not an unverified directory entry. A good specialist decision is bounded and reviewable from its recorded reasons without exposing unrelated personal information.
